Check all pages, report by email
The preview checks a sample. For the report, we check all pages of your website and send you every external image with its location, plus instructions on how to move them to your own server.
Other external services
These services are loaded when the page opens and receive your visitors’ IP address.
External images by server
External images found
We deliberately show no previews here, so nothing is loaded from other servers while you look.
Note: external targets that are not images
These image elements point to an external address that is not an image file (e.g. a web page). They are not counted as images, but are probably a mistake in the content.
Pages checked
Note: We check the HTML code and CSS files of the pages. Images loaded later by JavaScript and pages behind a login are not visible to us. The result is a sample, not legal advice.
How the check works
Three steps, whether your website has 10 or 10,000 posts.
Check
We open your homepage and up to 19 more pages and read the HTML and CSS, just as a browser would.
Preview
You see right away whether your website loads images from other servers, and from which ones.
Full report
If you like, we check all pages and email you the complete list with every location.
Why external images are a problem
An image from another server looks like any other. The consequences only show up later.
Privacy
Every page view sends your visitors’ IP address to the other server, without them knowing.
Missing images
If the old domain is shut down or the image is deleted, all that remains on your site is an empty frame.
Loading time
Every additional server costs a connection and slows your site down.
Control
The other server can replace the image at any time. What your visitors see is no longer up to you.
Frequently asked questions about external images
Quick answers before you check your domain.
What are external images?
External images are not stored in your WordPress Media Library but on another server, for example an old domain, Wix, Blogger or a CDN. Your site loads them from there on every page view. This is also called hotlinking.
How do I find external images in WordPress?
The quickest way is this check: enter your domain and within a minute you see which images come from which servers. By hand you would have to inspect every page in the browser or search the database for foreign image URLs.
Are external images a privacy (GDPR) problem?
On every page view the browser sends your visitors’ IP address to the other server. Whether that is allowed in your case depends on the provider and your privacy policy. The check gives you the technical facts; it is not legal advice.
Is the check really free?
Yes. No sign-up and nothing to install. You see a preview in your browser right away. If you like, we check all pages and email you the full report with every location, free of charge.
What does the check detect?
Images in the HTML, srcset and lazy loading, CSS background images, images in Elementor layouts, plus fonts and services from other servers. Only publicly accessible pages are read, and no images are downloaded.
How do I get external images into my Media Library?
With the free WordPress plugin Replace External Images. It imports external images from posts and pages into the Media Library and replaces the URLs, without opening each post. An add-on covers Elementor and ACF.
